Shadow and the Black Box..

These two slides taken from lecture 7 illustrate the power of shadow in determining mood. These images also combine the use of tonal variation and colour to accentuate ideas such as power and strength to the viewers. The bold juxtapositions have determined the high level of resolution in the overall composition and layout of the slides. The strong significance of these compositional factors has influenced the development of my unreal tournament project. As seen in the electro liquid aggregation I contrasted greatly the textures on both small and large scales to develop surfaces further. With the use of bold shadows evident also in the slides, walls and surfaces have been recontextualised. Using these methods of applying textures I have attempted to create a more dramatic atmosphere which suits the backdrop of the city landscape far below. The significance of such tools can also be highlighted when viewing the slide in different contexts. When posting the images onto my blog the second one has been rotated 180o. This furthermore accentuates the ideas which I’m exploring of shadows and tone, as they are now viewed in the vertical field.
