Power and The News - Our clients

After 20 years of tireless invention, Madonna is not only still at the top but has emerged as the First Lady of Pop. – to the disappointment of critics who typically believe that by now she should have been punished for her sins. This is mid-life Madonna

THICK, wide-ribbed cream tights, bamboo-heeled wedges and a subtly silver brocade coat: those are the season's must-haves. How do we know? Miuccia Prada of course.

Q: Do you wear clothes by any other designers?

A: "Only if they are dead or poor!"

To those who’ve known the President since boyhood, it’s not just those “dreams from my father” that make Obama, but also his mother’s daring, his grandmother’s grit, and his own relentless drive.

‘You’re the senate president now, and with that, you have a lot of pow-er.” Jones stretched out the word, as if savoring the pleasure of it, and his voice became very quiet as he continued: “And I told Barack, ‘You think I got a lot of pow-er now?,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, you got a lot of pow-er.’ And I said, ‘What kind of pow-er do I have?’ He said, ‘You have the pow-er to make a United States sen-a-tor!” Jones let out a soft, smoky laugh. “I said to Barack, I said, ‘That sounds good!’ I said, ‘I haven’t even thought of that.’ I said, ‘Do you have someone in mind you think I could make?,’ and he said, ‘Yeah. Me.’

Finally the textures...

From inspiration to design process leading to the final model..

Although quite abstract the models structure is taken from the axonometric and parallel projection sketches of number 4 (see earlier post). The two scientist which I have developed a working studio and central meeting place for are Alfred Nobel and Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Both scientist contributed differently and very significantly to the their individual scientific fields.
The Alfred Nobel quotes: Home is where I work and I work everywhere ~ If I have a thousand ideas and only one turns out to be good, I am satisfied.
The architectural space which I developed for Nobel was addressing such conceptual ideas of; diversity, integration between inside and outside working environments and ‘ordered chaos’ in a welcoming environment; And Jacques-Yves CousteauI am not a scientist, I am rather, an impresario of scientist
In designing this area the ideas which I was addressing were ones of representing the use of environmentally sound material, whilst still being extravagant, and a creative and ordered environment which could assist in his logical thought process.

Draft Models

The overall resolution of these images is lacking. Throughout the design process I learnt and developed on the common concepts being adressed such as tonal contrast and colour variation which were solved, once my understanding of unreal tornament grew.

Shadow and the Black Box..

These two slides taken from lecture 7 illustrate the power of shadow in determining mood. These images also combine the use of tonal variation and colour to accentuate ideas such as power and strength to the viewers. The bold juxtapositions have determined the high level of resolution in the overall composition and layout of the slides. The strong significance of these compositional factors has influenced the development of my unreal tournament project. As seen in the electro liquid aggregation I contrasted greatly the textures on both small and large scales to develop surfaces further. With the use of bold shadows evident also in the slides, walls and surfaces have been recontextualised. Using these methods of applying textures I have attempted to create a more dramatic atmosphere which suits the backdrop of the city landscape far below. The significance of such tools can also be highlighted when viewing the slide in different contexts. When posting the images onto my blog the second one has been rotated 180o. This furthermore accentuates the ideas which I’m exploring of shadows and tone, as they are now viewed in the vertical field.
